Biografía

Francesca Dasso (1986), es documentalista y cineasta experimental. Actualmente radica en su ciudad de origen Lima, Perú. Recibió una licenciatura en Economía de Brown University (EE. UU., 2008) y se graduó con honores de la Maestría en Medios Documentales en Ryerson University (Canadá, 2014). Su trabajo combina la práctica documental, elementos del cine expandido y nuevas tecnologías en la búsqueda de nuevas formas de representación.

Biography

Francesca Dasso is an award-winning creative technologist and multimedia designer working at the intersection of documentary, data-driven storytelling, and digital humanities.
She received a double B.A in Economics and Development Studies from Brown University (USA, 2008) and graduated with honors from the MFA program in Documentary Media at Ryerson University Her work blends traditional documentary practice with new media in the search of communicating hyperrealities that can describe the new paradigms of contemporary culture. Digital video is seen as a research tool and a medium of expression for exploring the everyday, where the macro and micro structures collide. Her video-based work has been screened in festivals such as ArtMo (2018, 2019), Mana Miami (2018), Cinema Vertigo (2017), FIVA (2017), Festival de Cine de Lima(2014), NodosCC (2015), ArtLima (2015), and in galleries such as Sala Miroquesada Garland (Lima, 2017).
She has been a finalist for the National Award for Experimental Films (Peru) and winner of the Best Latinamerican Filmmaker prize at the Alucine Media Arts Festival (2014) in Toronto. In 2018 she had her first solo exhibition in Peru, entitled Noosfera (Noosphere), a site-specific installation dealing with the concept of global consciousness within the context of an ever expanding virtual world. The exhibition, held at a former bank, included video-mapping and speaker-robots.
She has completed Artists Residencies at Mana Contemporary (Miami, 2018), the Gao Bo Studio (Beijing, 2017), Artscape Gibraltar Point (Toronto, 2014) and Transmedia Zone, Ryerson University (Toronto, 2013). In 2018, she was the Artist in Residence at La Victoria Lab, Intercorp’s innovation lab in Peru. She is the director of Contra Verso Media, a media production company specialized in Digital Social Innovation such as open data and knowledge management platforms. Their latest project, Ruta de Fuga, a webdoc covering the routes of the Venezuelan diaspora through Latin America, won the National New Media Award from the Ministry of Culture of Peru and its currently under production.
